Edinburgh - Bikes in Bus Lanes
On the 6th of May this year, the City of Edinburgh Council issued a report for the Transport, Infrastructure and Environment Committee to discuss the possibility of Powered Two Wheeler (PTW) use of the City's bus lanes. The committee decided to continue (hold over) the report until later this summer, in order to allow for consultation with relevant shareholders and report back. The council's report is available for viewing on this page and the BMF's response is available on the Regional Campaigns 2 page.
The BMF have examined this report and submitted a response which disagrees with the majority of the report's conclusions, which were based on Ken Livingston's 'published' report on the trails of bus lane use in London.
The report will be reconsidered by the council's committee on the 23rd of September this year and, along with the BMF's response, we are hoping to get as much backing from individual motorcyclists, local clubs and PTW users as possible.
So...If you live in Edinburgh, contact your local councillor and ask him for your support. If you live outside the capital, but regularly come into the City on your bike, then contact the transport department at the council and express your desire for safer motorcycling, less congestion and quicker commuting.
