Brake’s annual Road Safety Week will take place on November 18-24 in a bid to inspire local communities to get involved with road safety issues near them.

Road Safety Week is the UK’s biggest safety event and this year’s campaign, ‘Step up for Safe Streets’, has a dual objective: safe and healthy journeys.

Brake wants everyone from schools to policy-makers to get involved, celebrate and endorse road safety systems and greener travel including safe speed limits and ultra-low emissions technology.

“The BMF fully supports the great work that Road Safety Week does to raise awareness of road safety, particularly in educating the young and vulnerable. Making road safety a part of the curriculum - as is the case in France, for example - could have a major impact on future casualty rates,” said Jim Freeman, BMF Chairman.

“With someone being killed or seriously injured on a British road every 20 minutes, each one a preventable tragedy, there is still huge progress to be made,” said Joshua Harris, Director of Campaign for Brake.
