Creator of Haynes Manual John Haynes dies
John H Haynes OBE (1938-2019), creator of the Haynes Manual, has passed away at the age of 80.
Haynes was a successful entrepreneur who also founded the Haynes International Motor Museum as well as Haynes Publishing Group PLC.
Haynes was part of the Royal Air Force (RAF), where he developed proficiency working in a logistics role which endowed him with the business management skills necessary to pursue a career in publishing and mechanics.
His biggest achievement was his development of the Haynes Manual – a famous illustrated guide dedicated to assisting the repair of motorcycles, as well as other vehicles. He composed the inaugural edition in 1965. Now, upwards of 200 million Haynes Manuals have been sold across the world.
His official obituary reads: “John passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on the evening of Friday February 8, aged 80, after a short illness. John was a kind, generous, loving and devoted husband, brother, father and grandfather, who will be missed enormously.”
