Events coming to you in 2018
Mitch Elliott, BMF Events Director, reflects on 2017’s successes and explains what’s planned for next year
Last year was another of re-establishment for the BMF as an event organiser. The 2017 Dambuster Rally built on last year’s foundations and was a fantastic success, as was the National Road Rally once again. Sadly, the Scottish Rally had to be cancelled at the last minute due to unexpected problems, but a venue is being sought for another Scottish event in 2018 – watch this space.
2018 will again see the National Road Rally (July 7-8) and Dambuster Rally (August 17-19) take place. Both will run in their successful and established formats. We are also currently in the process of establishing some new events in Scotland and the South West, with a view to ultimately have half a dozen BMF rallies take place around the UK.
The BMF has had a long association with the FIM’s rallies which take place throughout the UK and Europe. Next year’s FIM events commence in June with the Motocamp in Croatia (June 6-9), then the Meritum Rendez-Vous in Latvia (19 -22 July) and the FIM Rally in Lithuania (July 25-27). Looking further ahead, the 2019 FIM Rally will be held in Denmark on July 31-August 2 2019.
If you have never attended a European event or toured on the continent, the FIM event organisers offer guidance and support to help make your first foray into Europe and beyond less stressful. For more information, visit fimteamgb.co.uk or contact Keith Freak at email@example.com.
In addition to the BMF's own events, 2017 saw the first BMF-supported event: Withfest. The BMF was involved in an advisory and organising capacity – but with little or no financial risk – and the BMF logo was displayed on promotional material. Withfest successfully presented the BMF to a new audience and marks the beginning of a trend we intend to continue in the future.
The BMF will be supporting a number of events this year. The first will be Lincolnshire Bike Week (July 18-25) which will mostly take place along the Lincolnshire coast, but with other events happening across the county. Withfest will also be happening again next summer (August 3-5).
In 2018, we will also be supporting BMF member Rita Davis’ Wandering Gypsy Walk. She will be walking from John o’ Groats to Land’s End, ‘wild camping’ along the way. Rita will begin in late April and expects it to take approximately 12 weeks to complete.
The BMF will be coordinating support for her journey and help organising the starting/finishing events. Some of Rita’s beneficiaries will be organisations that support bikers and their families in times of loss and grief. You can support her at justgiving.com.
With this many events happening during 2018, there should be plenty for all interests. Don’t forget, there’s also the opportunity to support the BMF by attending some of the many one-day events the BMF has been invited to. Whether it be attending a show or helping man the BMF stand, Peter Laidlaw will welcome all offers of support and help.
