Get on your bike for Ride to Work Week 2015

Commuters Get On on Ride to Work Day

Published on 26 May 2015 by Gill

The time is approaching for motorcyclists and scooter riders to celebrate their love of bikes by taking part in the 24th annual Ride to Work Week.

Kicked off by International Ride to Work Day, the week beginning Monday 15-06-15 will see thousands take to their two wheels and show the nation the numerous benefits of commuting by motorbike and moped.

The big benefitting factor mentioned by all riders is the time saved versus driving a car. Congestion is increasing journey times and according to the CBI will increase by a massive 50% inside a generation, so why waste valuable time when you can bypass stagnant queues of cars?

These 30 million car commuters will be the major area of focus for this year’s campaign; commuters who are also facing worsening problems with parking.

A study by Transport and Mobility Leuven also suggests that a greater proportion of PTWs on the road reduces overall congestion. It found that on one of Europe’s busiest roads congestion fell by 40% when just 10% of car drivers swapped four wheels for two.

There are many ways you can get involved. For example you can:

  • Ride to Work during the week;
  • Take a non-rider as a pillion;
  • Encourage interested new riders to take a CBT;
  • Go to an organised event, or create one yourself;
  • Facebook and Tweet, get as many people as you can to join the #commutehappy community this June.
  • Simply spread the word!
