Figures from the Motorcycle Industry Association have showed that motorcycle sales have risen again and are up a healthy 13% year on year.

The MCIA, the trade body for the motorcycle industry, monitors the state of the market and the figures so far for 2016 have seen a lot of good news. New registrations in the 651-1000cc range went up by 9.7% in March and the 51-125cc range stormed ahead with 15.6% growth. Much of the growth was driven by Sports/Tourer bikes, which saw growth of a full 17% year on year, although Supersport machines saw a sharp 12.8% drop.

Generally, morale in the industry is high. In a survey of dealers, 76% felt demand for new machines had improved when compared to last year and 58% reported increased demand in the used market as well. Some dealers even reported to the MCIA that they have to travel great distances to get their hands on the best stock thanks to pressure on sales from the internet.

So, if you’re wondering about perhaps changing your bike or returning to riding after a break, you’ll be in good company if you wander into a showroom in 2016.
