Motorcycle sales fall again
In further grim news for the motorcycle sector, new statistics from BMF Corporate Members the Motorcycle Industry Association (MCIA) have shown a fall in sales and registrations for the second month in a row.
Total motorcycle sales recorded a sharp drop of 11.6% to just 9,248, doubling down heavily on their 0.6% fall last month, while scooters dropped by 12.5% to 1,790 and wiped out much of the 16.6% gains recorded last month.
The 651-1,000cc power band was hit particularly hard, seeing a 19.5% drop, while the 51-125cc band fell 12.7% and the 1,000cc+ band fell by 11.7%. Only the 126-650cc band managed any growth, and even then it was just 1%.
While 2019 had thus far been a good year for motorcycle sales and registrations, these new figures have seen many gains abruptly lost. Growth in registrations for all powered two-wheelers has now dropped back to just 2.9% year-on-year after having previously hit 7%, with motorcycles as a whole down to just 1.1%.
