An 18-year-old man who stole motorcycles and cars and posted footage of himself joyriding with them online has been jailed for seven years and banned from driving for a further five years.

Tyreece Ancel was sentenced at Bristol Crown Court on October 29 for a string of 33 offences committed from 2016-2019 after pleading guilty to six counts of burglary, six counts of driving while disqualified, conspiracy to burgle and conspiracy to steal.

Ancel, who the defence noted had acquired significant drug debts and left school without qualifications, became a notorious part of the ‘Bristol Bike Takers’ gang for his habit of filming himself joyriding using the vehicles he stole and posting the footage to social media.

At the time of his arrest on June 28, Ancel was found with a mountain bike later determined to have been stolen during a burglary and evidence of himself committing a number of offences. This evidence was used by officers to bring further charges.

Welcoming the sentence, Avon and Somerset Police’s PC Kevin Webb said: “This is a really significant result for Operation Remedy and we are delighted that such a serial offender is off the streets of Bristol. We understand Ancel was a key part of a criminal group responsible for many of these crimes and our message to his associates or anyone considering committing similar offences is clear; this will not be tolerated and we will use all resources available to us to apprehend criminals.”
