Put a hat on for Ben

A charity committed to supporting the mental health of people in the UK's automotive industry is leading a campaign to raise awareness and funding.

In association with World Mental Health Day on October 10, Hats on 4 Ben is aiming to generate £11,000 in donations. Organised by the charity Ben, the campaign will involve a nationwide effort to raise money for this good cause and ask participants to wear a hat to work so they can help raise awareness.

Ben is a not-for-profit organisation that introduces itself as a “dedicated partner to the automotive industry”. It assists people in the industry with their physical health and wellbeing by providing health checks and helping them deal with issues such as depression, stress and bereavement.

One in four people are affected by mental health issues each year which, given the size of the UK’s automotive sector, could mean up to 200,000 people. Of these, many are likely to be bikers and people in the biking-oriented sections of the automotive industry.

The Hats on 4 Ben concept is:

  • Sign up - Ben will post a fundraising pack to help your business get involved in the campaign.
  • Spread the word - Tell everyone to wear a hat to work on World Mental Health Day on October 10.
  • Donate - All participants donate £2 to Ben via JustGiving or collection box.
  • Get involved - Post all of your hat selfies with the #HatsOn4Ben hashtag on social media.

People in every walk of life deal with mental health issues, and that naturally means a great many bikers too. If this campaign or something like it has helped you over the years, you’re welcome to tell us your story on our Facebook page.
