How often do we see a phenomenal motorcycle rider nominated for BBC Sports Personality of the Year?

This year might well be the year for 2017 FIM Superbike World Champion, Jonathan Rea, who is being put forward in a petition supported by more than 6,000 fans.

Jea has now secured three consecutive Superbike World Championships and, in addition to his riding successes, is due to receive an MBE in November.

His sponsor, Carole Nash, began the petition in support of his riding.

Speaking about the petition, Rea said: “I just concentrate on riding my bike well and winning races. I don’t know if I am worthy or not of an award as big as BBC Sports personality, but for others to be talking about me in this way is hugely flattering.”
