Motorcycle retailers across the UK have cause for celebration after February 2019 saw a 13% jump in sales of new bikes compared to the same period in 2018.

During the entire calendar month, 10,390 new bikes of all kinds went onto the road for the first time. Honda alone accounted for 1,056 machines, while Royal Enfield entered February’s top ten list of registrations for the first time with a respectable 124.

It is likely that February 2018’s sales were hit by bad weather caused by the notorious ‘Beast from the East’, but this is still a positive sign for the industry. For all of 2019 thus far, sales are still up by 10.5% on the same period in 2018.

Welcoming the news, the head of the National Motorcycle Dealers Association (NMDA) Stephen Latham said: “Overall, dealers are optimistic that the market should perform well long-term in 2019. But, with uncertainties around Brexit set to continue, it may be difficult to say. With the number plate change in March, it will be interesting see what happens in the market next month.”
