Top 10 best selling motorbikes of 2015
Which bikes are proving popular among purchasing riders so far this year?
2015 looks to be a resurgent year for the industry as registration and practical test numbers continue to rise at a rate of around 10% year-on-year.
In May the total number of new motorbikes bought actually went up by 13.6% versus May of last year.
But what brands are benefitting the most from this ongoing revival? The top 10 most popular bike models (based on sales of new models from the first third of this year) are:
- Honda PCX 125 710 sales
- Yamaha MT-09 TRACER 629
- Honda CBF 125 M 606
- BMW R 1200 GS 534
- Honda NSC 110 WH 527
- Yamaha MT-07 ABS 481
- BMW S 1000 RR 438
- YamahaMT 125 438
- Honda CBR 125 R 392
- BMW R 1200 GS ADVENTURE 384
The line up is dominated entirely by Honda, Yamaha and BMW, the MCIA when carrying out its research saying that comments such as “we are selling everything new we can get hold of” were not uncommon. The most popular bike, the Honda PCX 125 scooter can be bought new for around £2,700.

As a consequence of the recent revival a number of franchised dealers have expressed frustration over shortages in availability and long delivery lead times on those models currently out of stock. Sales have exceeded many manufacturers’ expectations.
On the other hand, it was noticeable that some franchises were performing much better than others and the step-through markets, both moped and full-size scooters, are not exactly booming despite the popular PCX 125. Moped sales continue to fall by around 5% compared to 2014.
Which bike will end 2015 on top? Will it be a Honda, Yamaha or BMW, or will there be a late surge from another manufacturer?
