The British motorcycle marque Triumph has announced that it will be moving volume production of its last two UK-built models from Leicestershire to Thailand.

Currently built in the firm’s Hinckley facility, the Tiger 1200 and Speed Triple will be transferred to the existing Triumph production line at Chonburi – one of three it has in Thailand – to be constructed alongside other models in Triumph’s range.

Construction of Triumph’s Factory Custom models will continue at Hinckley, along with an expansion of its research and development facilities, but it is understood that up to 50 jobs could be at risk.

A statement by Triumph Chief Executive Nick Bloor said that the production move was being made to improve the marque’s growth prospects in the Asian market.
