Women Riders World Relay fast approaching
A round-the-world motorbike relay to promote female motorcycling is set to begin on February 27.
The Women Riders World Relay (WRWR) will commence from John o’ Groats in northeast Scotland next week. A baton will be passed by ‘guardians’ on two wheels between groups of women bikers as they complete a circuit of the British Isles before stopping off at the Ace Café London.
Here, a launch party will take place including special appearances from famous female motorcyclists such as Elspeth Beard – the first woman to circumnavigate the globe on a motorbike.
From there, the relay will branch out and extend across the globe with plans to finish in January 2020 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The relay is intended as a statement to demonstrate what women can organise and achieve.
Founder of WRWR UK Hayley Bell said: “I wanted to ignite a global sisterhood of inspirational women to promote courage, adventure, unity and passion for biking from all corners of the world and do something that’s never been done before to this scale. My aim is to WOW the industry into realising the global market for women in motorsports and to inspire women worldwide.”
Approximately 14,000 women around the globe have joined the initiative so far. You can sign up to join the relay here.
