Ride to Work Day

The Third National Ride to Work day, an initiative by the Motorcycle Industry Association, took place in June. I attended the bikers’ breakfast in London – co-sponsored by motorbike-bob.com and the MCI – at Marble Arch and was treated to a McDonalds’ breakfast. Former minister and president of MCI, Steve Norris was there on his scooter and was later joined by other personalities, including actor Eric Richard and ex-Gladiator, Rio. There were photo opportunities for the media which included riding around the block a couple of times, and speeches by MCI’s Craig Carey-Clinch, MAG’s Ian Mutch and myself. We were able to emphasise the point that the PTW is the best way to travel to work.

Similar events were held for the first time in the Netherlands, by Dutch motorcycle industry organisation RAI and riders’ group KNMV, and in Ireland with the support of MAG Ireland. It was claimed to be a success with over 200,000 choosing the powered two-wheeler to travel to work. Making their use even more efficient by taking a passenger to work was an additional theme.
