History of the BMF Show

The BMF has been integral to the organisation of countless motorcycling events over the decades. These provide opportunity to promote and protect the interests of the motorcycling community while providing an enjoyable day for our community.

The BMF organises shows and events throughout the year in locations across the UK. Previous popular shows have included the Scottish Rally, Keslo show, Tail End and the BMF Show (originally named the BMF Rally).

The BMF Show was once Europe’s largest outdoor motorcycle event with around 100,000 visitors every year. When it began in 1961, the show was much like any other motorcycle rally but it quickly grew to become one of the biggest motorcycling events on the calendar. From 1977, the BMF Show took place at the East of England Showground, Peterborough, where it eventually finished in 2014 due to the contracted organiser going into liquidation.

Today, the BMF still runs events; concentrating on smaller, local rallies which is where the BMF’s origins are rooted. In recent years, the BMF’s activities have refocused to more actively concentrate on government lobbying and the protection of motorcyclists’ interests.

Speaking in December 2014, Rachel Crossley at BMF HQ said: “It was felt in many corners that the ridiculous six-figure deposit that Peterborough was asking for, would not have sat well with our members, many of whom have expressed a wish to return to the smaller regional shows of the past. The BMF could not have justified risking that amount of Members’ money on one show. We all know that it rains that weekend, anyway!”
