A new business model aiming to reduce the number of stolen motorcycles in Edinburgh has proven successful and popular with residents.

Moto Stable is a membership-based motorcycle storage company that allows members 24-hour access to its secure storage facility.

Established in January 2018 and located in Abbeyhill just a short walk from Holyrood, the community garage can host up to 30 motorcycles. They are protected by secure access control and both internal and external CCTV.

Founder of Moto Stable Callum McPherson said: “The first Moto Stable location is now almost at capacity and has certainly had an impact on the motorcycle theft issue in Edinburgh.

“In previous years, summer months saw thefts reach three figures but motorcyclists know they can’t take any chance now. Moto Stable keeps many bikes safe that would otherwise be left outside and vulnerable, so we know we have made an impact.”

Recently released data from Police Scotland showed that thefts in June 2018 dropped by two-thirds compared with the previous years’ figures.

Mr McPherson is looking to establish another location in Edinburgh and is open to the possibility of more sites in Glasgow and London in the future.
