Southend Shakedown returns for 2019

The Southend-based motorcycle group The Oilheads have announced the return of the Southend Shakedown.

With involvement from Southend Council, organisation from The Oilheads and financial backing from motorbike insurance specialist and BMF Corporate Member Devitt Insurance, the Southend Shakedown Resurrection – which was originally run by Ace Café until 2016 – will take place on Monday 22 April 2019 from 10am-5pm.

Tony Lovegrove, founder of The Oilheads and Vice Chairman of The Southend Shakedown Resurrection Committee said: “Provisions are in place to provide parking for 3,500 bikes – which we are really thrilled about. We would like to thank Southend Borough Council for their support and Devitt Insurance for their financial backing, allowing us to bring this event back to Southend’s glorious Victorian seaside venue. A biking event brought to the community by bikers.”

Adam Ball, fellow Oilhead’s member and Chairman of The Southend Shakedown Committee said: “It’s not been without sweat and tears! It’s been 10 months in the making and we are doing this all in our spare time – it’s a not-for-profit event – but we are passionate about bringing this historic event back to Southend. Let’s hope it’s the first of many.”

Tom Warsop, Head of Marketing for Devitt Insurance Services, added: “We are delighted to be a part of the relaunched Southend Shakedown. The team have put such a lot of work into re-establishing this historic event and it made absolute sense for us, as a local motorcycle insurance specialist, to support their efforts. Good luck to everyone involved.”
