The Swedish designer Ola Stenegärd, who became famous for his work at BMW on the S1000RR, R-nineT and HP2 Sport, is moving to Indian as Director of Product Design for the marque.

A lifelong biker who won his first motorcycle show prize at the age of 15 with a moped he customised himself and the youngest ever inductee of the Swedish Motorcycle Hall of Fame, Stenegärd has long been an enthusiast for classic American V-twins. His recruitment is an interesting development for industry watchers, as it suggests that Indian may be branching out into new areas where his expertise will be valuable.

“I couldn’t be more excited to be joining Indian Motorcycle at a time when the brand has successfully returned itself to prominence and is powered by an increasing level of momentum,” said Stenegärd. “I’m thrilled to build on the brand’s momentum going forward. I couldn’t ask for a better situation.”
