New Highways England motorcycling campaign
On Sunday June 18, Highways England launched a new motorcycle safety campaign – Be a Better Biker.
The campaign intends to provide experienced motorcyclists practical tips to improve their riding. It will run in the South East for four weeks.
Key points of the campaign include:
- Taking regular breaks – fatigue is one of the highest causes of accidents.
- Awareness of unexpected hazards
- Safely exiting a motorway
Charley Boorman, who recently featured in BMF’s Motorcycle Rider magazine, was there to help launch the campaign. He said: “What I like about this campaign is it aims to give practical and good tips on how to be a little safer on the roads. As we know as bikers, roads can be challenging and the people on them frustrating. As roads are getting busier we have to be more careful.”
Richard Leonard, Head of Road Safety at Highways England, said: “This campaign will help give bikers some practical tips that they can use to protect themselves and continue enjoying the unique freedom of the open road that biking offers.”
